Gemini cleans my video archive

Learning with phones

I teach elderly people in Irish libraries how to enhance their critical thinking skills with their mobile phones. Occasionally, I record their feedback on my Osmo Pocket 3 or my Galaxy phone. Sometimes those collections gather dust so I’m thankful that my LCA intern can use Filmora to stitch together a rough cut of videos and photos made during my teaching sessions.

I asked Google Gemini to review the 90 second clip and here is what it said I'm doing.

The video documents a community digital skills workshop—held in County Tipperary, Ireland—aimed at introducing local residents, particularly older adults, to mobile AI tools such as ChatGPT.

Key Highlights

  • Community Workshops & Coaching: The video opens with a montage of group sessions in community rooms and libraries (under Tipperary County Council). Participants learn how to navigate smartphone features and use AI apps with the help of guides and “AI Skills Cards”.

  • Participant Feedback (Music Discovery): An attendee shares his main takeaway during an interview, explaining how ChatGPT successfully identified a song and songwriter from just a few remembered lyrics after failed attempts searching on Google and YouTube.

  • Practical AI Demo (Visual Recognition): A participant demonstrates ChatGPT’s multimodal image recognition by uploading a photo of flowers and asking which ones bloom in County Tipperary in early spring. The app correctly identifies common daisies (Bellis perennis) and explains their blooming period, highlighting how AI can act as a helpful pocket guide.
