Hoping for an American recovery

· Bernie Goldbach

I learn a lot by listening to friends while sharing time in cafes and pubs in Ireland. Many of my friends hope for the recovery of America after 2028.

However great the degradation of American ideals in theMAGA era, the United States of America has immense power, coast to coast resources and shared values deeply embedded with European culture.

I was born 66 km from Gettysburg where my German and Irish ancestors took fourscore and seven years before their children voted for the proposition that “all men are created equal” was expanded to include Black people. Then it took my parents' generation to translate that into law.

American women have had the vote for only a bit more than 100 years, and Trump has shown that the struggle for equality is far from finished.

I heard Kennedy’s inaugural address and believe America can offer a new birth of freedom.

I’m willing to contribute again like my forbears.
