Glad to get my mid-term ballot. Thanks Democrats Abroad.

I am from Lancaster PA and registered to vote in the US midterm elections. If you’re American and living overseas, you should check to see if you also received an electronic ballot.

Here is what I have to do.

Watch for the arrival of an encrypted email. It arrives with the Subject line that begins with: [SEND SECURE] Absentee Ballot.

There are two options to view the encrypted email.

Option 1: If I had asked for the email view my Microsoft email account, I could have opened it with my Windows Hello credentials. It might be possible to do the same thing since my Gmail is linked to my Microsoft email account, so I’ll see.

Option 2: I may opt to receive a one-time passcode. That would mean clicking on the “Use a one-time passcode” link and then activating a passcode that is separately emailed to me.

There are instructions inside the encrypted email. Pennsylvanian ballot come as a PDF to the encrypted email and it should open once I decrypt the message. Upon opening the PDF, I will be prompted to enter a password. I just received my password and I write it in my Rhodia notebook so I can vote straightaway.

I also wrote down the Help Desk at 1-866-472-7873 (Option 4) and its email STSVCSURE_HelpDesk@pa.gov.

I’ll let you know how things go when I vote before the end of September for the 2026 midterms.

I appreciate seeing how the American Embassy in Dublin had printed promotional materials available in the waiting area when I applied for a passport last summer. And I am doubly appreciative to Democrats Abroad for their very effective online registration service.
